It took One-Edge a moment to really hear Longsong. *The wolf cubs...* She instinctively turned to look in the direction of the tent with the precious new live. She was about to just dash of but then she was returned in her thought to Claw and Cloudbird. *Cloudbird...* Her thoughts were mixed between where to be. ::Softpaws?:: She called out in her mind for the she-wolf. She grabbed Longsong's arm in a tight grip. ~**She's not answering.**~ ::Softpaws?::
Eveningksy followed suit with everyone taking a step back although her love for her sister fought back. She wanted to be right there, to back her up. But she could not do that. Instead she kept the mental link to her sister, kept feeding her support. Her hands tightened in fists in anticipation.
Morning-Glow followed the events to unfold. Fight for leadership were always one's with pride. But at Cloudbird's words whatever pride there might have been, it was gone now. This was no fair flight. It was that moment Morning-Glow received Waterfall's request to fetch her herbal bag. Morning-Glow's attention switched from the pending fight to the on-lookers. He spotted a familiar face, the shy friend of the herbal healer. He circled around the crowd and reached Branchwalker's side. He gave a small nod of apology to Wishpond for interrupting. "I believe you still have Waterfall's herbal bag? She is in need of it right now."

Wishpond blinked, taken aback by Branchwalker's words. "N-no... although that is also a concern, I wasn't referring to--" His mental floundering was interrupted by the arrival of Morning-Glow, which afforded the harpist a welcome moment to pull his thoughts together. It seemed like it might have been just a miscommunication, but still...
~**Say, Featherfoot...**~ he locksent to the elfess beside him, passing her an unsure look. ~**Surely these wolf-blooded ones are aware of their mortality, right?**~ He bit his lip, apprehension unfurling in the pit of his stomach like a viper. ~**I mean... there is no possible way that they could be oblivious to it, right?**~ His sending was tinged with both uncertainty and the smallest whisper of dread.
((OOC: How do I tag people?))

"Monsters?" Claw answered. "Seems you've grown old enough for your brain to rot inside your skull. There are no monsters, every child knows that!" She gave a laugh. "Death comes to us here on the plains as well, you know. You're not the only one who's lost someone to a spring flood or skyfire. And you're not the only one here's who's seen saplings grow to trees." Circling to the left, Claw unsheated her own dagger and grinned. "Who'll be our judge? Or do your kind not have such things when a challenge is issued?"
"I will be your judge," Greyspear said, stepping forward. "We are a fair people - we will allow one of your kind to judge with me, despite the fact that it was you who challenged us." He looked at the Children of the Oaks present. "Who will stand by me?"
~**Softpaws' isn't answering One-Edge's sendings!**~ Longsong sent to Greyspear as the elf had finished his short speech. ~**We know this is a challenge, but can we...?**~
~**Go,**~ Greyspear lock-sent to both Longsong and One-Edge. ~**Protect the cubs!**~
Longsong didn't wait to be asked twice. Taking One-Edge by the hand he hurried off toward the storage tent where Softpaws was.
Dawngazer was the one to answer Morning-Glow's question, stepping between him and Branchwalker. "We might have it. But seeing as you lot are throwing our injured out in the cold, why should we give it back to you? Give me one good reason."
"Dawngazer-" Branchwalker said, but cut himself short. He didn't want to fight or steal, but he would like to hear Morning-Glow rationalize his tribe's decision.
((OOC: Claw doesn't know that the Tall Tree elves are from a Redwood forest, so to her seeing a tree grow isn't that impressive - so she has no clue how old Cloudbird really is. I'll start a new thread for the storage tent encounter + anyone of the Children of the Oaks can volunteer to be the CotO-judge for the challenge!))

Morning-Glow shrugged. "A good reason? I can't give you one." His hands went up on his hips as he shook his head. "The tribe has spoken. Although that wasn't something anyone of us expected." He added with a glance towards Cloudbird and Claw. He turned back to the two young elves in front of him. "I would not wish to ask this of you at this time, but one of ours is in need of healing."

"Go get the cursed bag," Dawngazer said before Branchwalker could speak. Her voice was full of anger, but it was all aimed at the Children of the Oaks present, none at her soul brother. "I'll keep an eye on these...elves while you're away."
Branchwalker glanced at Dawngazer, then gave a nod and rushed off toward the tent that the wounded had been moved to.
Dawngazer kept her eyes on Morning-Glow, Featherfoot and Wishpond as Branchwalker left. When he was out of immediate earshot, she said: "Now, I've been hearing a lot of whisper of what savage beasts we are from your tribemates. But from where I'm standing it looks like you lot are the growling wolves, prepared to defend your territory at all costs, regardless of the other pack's wounded or cubs. It can't be just we have the wolves on our side. I've seen your hunters and warriors, you are many times more than us and skilled - and you'd never have let us come here if you feared our wolves. What's the real reason behind your lot panicking like this?"
((OOC: I'm off to Tokyo until the 5th of May, so won't have any internet until then, just so people know. I'll start a thread for the elves heading for the wolf cubs as soon as I get back!))

Cloudbird sighed then switched to sending, though to Claw alone. ~**Your trees are mere saplings to those of my lost home.**~ The send was accompanied by the sight, from Cloudbird's eyes, of the trees where her tribe made their home.
Featherfoot watched the rest of her tribe mates, thoughtful. "I suspect," she said in a soft, sad voice, "That your mortality frightens them. The longer you stay, the more likely we are to Recognize with one of you and -" She stood closer to Wishpond and shivered. Then she looked up at the young elfess, filled with fire and life, who stood in front of her. "It is terrifying, for us, who take so much longer to change."

Morning-Glow nodded to Featherfoot, offering his small gesture of encouragement. Then he gave his attention back to Dawngazer. "That, and it is a different thing to have wolves as companions than to share blood with them. There are those of us that don't see your blood as pure, but tainted. Yet another reason to fear Recognition with one of you." He turned to look at Cloudbird and Claw again. "They are trying to establish time-wise domination over each other right now. But we see time differently." Again he turned back to Dawngazer. "I have long lost count of the time that I have passed. I have seen things happen in nature, that most only see happen once in lifetime." The thought though amused the elf himself and he left a small chuckle, directed only at himself. "Considering the way we live it is not usual for one to see life come and pass as I've seen." OOC: Probably a bad choice of words from Morning-Glow. Dawngazer, attack!

Silvereyes did not dare to go far from her brother Treebreeze, for fear he might try to fallow her. Her heart hurt with sadness and fear and most of all anger at the scene outside. "If they know it's wrong....Someone stop this fight! ...Oh, Cloudbird, you had better win! If you do I'll make you the most stunning clothes as soon as I can!" She mumbled so no one could hear her. Her shiny eyes glancing to the narrow view between gathered tribe mates outside the Tent opening and to her brother. Her right hand in a white knuckled fist over her chest while her other hand rested her fingertips to her awed lips. With eyes wide, she watched...helpless to do anything. Her eyes streaming silently with tears over her cheeks. Her heart was matching her broken spirit. "Win Cloudbird, You must win!..." she kept whispering to the High Ones repeatedly."
((Ooc: Not much for my chara to do or say right now, besides observe and pray for the best outcome for her people. No problem with that. I am so lost on the part with Claw when I was all this time thinking it was Wasp that....Hmmm....Please help me understand what I've missed with a summery , pretty please? I read from the point from where we stopped posting in the Yahoo groups and started posting here.))

OOC: Who is Claw and what happened to WASP? what did I miss? ~^____^~v Blushing w/sweat drop)) I'm a little out of the loop because of the divorce, but it is my understanding that Claw lead the branch hunt that was interrupted by the survivors and that she's angry, resentful, and just really pissy about that. Add in that apparently she wanted to be chief of her own branch but didn't have the stones to challenge the leader of any of the other branches. It also seems to me that she really hates the wolfblood thing and is disgusted by the survivors. So I don't get how, even if she wins, proving she's better than those she thinks are basically dirt not worth getting on her shoes is a good thing.

If you're lost in who is who I suggest checking from our website. Sofia has done a great job and you can find just about anything there.

Ooc: I see, now. I left Gerli a message on FB but I think she is doing the Medieval days thing again, so guess to move the story along we have Claw in place of Wasp. Eh, cool enough with me. I don't mind, I was just wondering about the change. Thanks for letting me know. I miss Gerli an hope she returns soon. Thanks again.

OOC: Fefe, Claw was there all along (she was the one volunteering to bring the news to the Wolfriders after the voting), so she didn't replace Wasp. I'm sure Gerlin's just busy with life and will get back to Wasp when she can.

Ooc; I must have missed some posts some place or possibly with my cat's death last year and seeking work, I maybe got mistaken or confused in what I was reading, or else Yahoo's lagging may have ate the posts I needed to read.? Anyhow, Sorry for this misunderstanding and when I get a check to read a while, I'll seek out Claw and Wasp and see what I missed as it seems quite a bit I've missed, heh. Silly me. I am enjoying the story and do not mean to roughen the edges, just scratching my head at the missing info in my memory. ^___^v Thank you.

OOC: If anyone is confused by the current storyline, but don't have the time to read through the whole Game Archive on the website, there is now a big timeline of the game, with summaries of each part. Just click "Where & What" on the website, then Timeline Also, I hope to make Claw's motives clearer later on, but no spoilers IC:The mental image from Cloudbird seemed to bring Claw up short for a moment. Then she shrugged. ~**Impressed that one of your blood has seen even one of those thing grow. Must mean you're old and tired though. Creeky bones are no match for young, spry legs, wolf-blood.**~ There was a taunting to her sending, but also an underlying sureness about something she wasn't saying. She took a step to the side, eyes on Cloudbird, ready to strike or block as needed. "Our what?" Dawngazer shouted and turned to Featherfoot. "'Mortality'? Do we look sick to you?" Morning-Glow's comment about tainted blood and having watched lives come and go that came right after sat as well as a stone in a shoe. Dawngazer whirled on him, baring her sharp teeth and growling. "You laugh," she said, her voice deadly still and quite after the rumbling growl. "You laugh!" How dared he?! How dared he stand there and chuckle as her tribe mates were about to be thrown to the mercies of the plains. They had to be mad. They had to be mad, the whole lot of them. Rage colored Dawngazer's vision red and before she could think things through, she leapt for Morning-Glow's throat. "I've had enough of you!"
